Advantages of Bumble:
- Bumble is positioned a bit differently than hinge (woman making the first move or there is a questionaire). This might prevent some woman from migrating to Hinge as they prefer the Bumble style. Different people might just have different preference or like both.
- Psychological safety: Women may feel safer choosing their dates than being chosen.
- Control: Bumble makes women feel empowered and less objectified.
- One of the major pain points for women has been being contacted by men they are not interested in.
- In addition a lot of users still know Bumble for intentional dating or never tried Hinge and brand perception + Network effects plays a major role in dating markets
- Bumble is lead by a woman and can therefore more credibly claim that it’s woman first. (They might win on the marketing side)
- Bumble is still cheaper than Hinge
- Many user might use both apps and not just one ← All apps can monetize. If the pie grows (e.g. due to better execution of all dating apps, that’s good for everyone)
- Bumble has received less negative safety and trust concerns in the past than Match group. Hinge’s association to Match Group may reduce its trust and safety perception.
- Other Bumble models such as Bumble for Friends (BFF) and Bumble for professionals (Bumble Bizz) helps Bumble reduce churn. Launched in July 2023, BFF had 730,000 MAUs by October 2024 according to Sensor Tower.
