Oliver Wyman’s estimates
- 2022: Estimated (page 20) Europe car subscription market will grow from $900 million in 2020 to
$4.1 billion in 2025 and $15.1 billion in 2030→compound annual growth rate of 32.5%.
- Estimated (page 14) North America car subscription will grow from $700 million in 2020 to $3 billion by 2025 and $10.3 billion by 2030.
- October 2024: Estimated European car subscription market will grow from $1.4 billion in 2023 to $2.9 billion in 2035, a 6% annual growth rate.
- Estimated North America car subscription market will grow from $2.2 billion in 2023 to $5.4 billion in 2035.
The base numbers indicate that market size grew 15.7% annually between 2020 and 2023. They also significantly lowered their estimates for 2030 to 2035, saying they had overestimated growth in this nascent sector.
Oliver Wyman said in 2023 that some studies suggest subscription will account for up to 40% of market share by 2030 in Germany. They pointed out that estimated 100,000 to 200,000 car subscriptions had been taken out in Germany. The 40% share comes from a 2020 study conducted by Ferdinand Dudenhöffer of the Duisburg-based CAR Institute. hence cannot fully be relied on now.
Boston Consulting Group estimates
- Estimated in 2021 that the subscription market in Europe and the US could reach $30 billion to $40 billion by 2030—around 15% of new car sales.
Deloitte survey
- A 2025 study by Deloitte found (page 26) that 33% of German users (age 18-34) would give up car ownership for subscription. In US, 44% would choose car subscription. Sample size for Germany was 344 users while for US was 286 users.
Sixt+ Active contracts
- June 2023: Management said there were 19,000 active Sixt+ contracts until the end of 2023 (page 6).
- July 2022: Management said there were 16,000 active Sixt+ contracts until the end of 2022 (page 6).
- Q2 2021: Management said there were more than 10,000 active contracts (page 18).
Regional availability
- Sixt says it’s available in 300 pickup and drop-off locations in Europe.
- In Europe, it’s available in 10 countries.
- In May 2022, RBC flash-note pointed out that two-thirds of the active SIXT+ base was domiciled in Germany.
- In November 2022, Berenberg said CFO confirmed that ”SIXT+ contracts remain heavily concentrated in Germany, with France the next-largest market.”
- In November 2023, RBC said “Spain is now our No. 2 for SIXT+ sign-ups, overtaking France this quarter.”
